Basic Principles of Good
Parenting
Basic principles of being a good parent are:
1: Treat your kids the way you wanted to be treated when you
were a kid. You did not want parents who were always in your
business you wanted parents who kept a safe distance and that
is what you need to do for your kids.
2: Modify your parenting skills to match your child. If you
have more than one child, keep the basics the same such as
basic rules but as to individual rules, each child is different
so you can't use the same techniques or play the same
developmental roles with each child because each child is
an individual.
3: Set up rules for your child such as a curfew, but sit
down and explain each rule with them as they are set, so you
know that they understand. You should always know two things.
Where your child is and what they are doing.
4: Encourage your child's independence. You want to help
them become independent. They can choose their own clothes and
choose what foods they want to eat. Let them decorate their
rooms their way and as they grow up they will learn to make the
right choices and make the right decisions.
5: Talk to your child, do not lecture. Kids tend to rebel
more when you lecture. Explain to your child why they cannot do
what they want all the time, explain to them the rules and why
they have to follow them. Try to never say the words 'Because I
said So'.
6: Treat your child with respect and they will do the same
for you.
